Incorrect Dependent Number

The dependent number submitted with the Personal Health Number (PHN) does not match MSP records.

Official Description: This is an incorrect dependent number.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to resolve the error.

  1. Verify the patient's full PHN and dependent number (if any) directly from their BC Services Card or CareCard.
  2. Check the patient's demographic profile in your EMR or billing software. Ensure the dependent number field exactly matches the patient's card. For most modern PHNs, this field may be blank or '01'.
  3. Perform a real-time PHN eligibility check through Teleplan. This will confirm the active PHN and correct dependent number directly from the MSP Data Centre.
  4. Update the patient's record with the correct information from the eligibility check and resubmit the claim.
  5. If the claim is rejected again after verification, contact the Teleplan Data Centre at 604-683-7151 to investigate the registration discrepancy. Have the patient's name, PHN, and date of birth ready.
