Dependent Coverage Cancelled

MSP records show this dependent is no longer covered under the submitted family PHN.

Official Description: Coverage for this dependent has been cancelled.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to resolve the error.

  1. Verify the dependent's age. Dependents are often issued their own Personal Health Number (PHN) upon turning 19. Ask the patient if they have received a new BC Services Card.
  2. If the patient has a new, individual PHN, update their patient record in your EMR.
  3. Resubmit the claim using the patient's correct, individual PHN.
  4. If the patient is unaware of any coverage change or believes this is an error, advise them to contact Health Insurance BC (HIBC) at 604-683-7151 to resolve their enrollment status. The clinic cannot fix their coverage.
  5. Once the patient confirms HIBC has corrected their records, resubmit the claim.
