How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to resolve the error.

  1. Confirm with the patient or guardian that the dependent is actively covered under the family's MSP account. Check for recent changes like a dependent turning 19, a change in marital status, or a move out of province.
  2. Verify the claim for data entry errors. Ensure you have used the primary account holder's PHN and that the dependent's first name, last name, and birthdate are entered correctly in the correct fields.
  3. Advise the patient or guardian to contact Health Insurance BC (HIBC) at 604-683-7151 to resolve the dependent's registration status. This is a patient-level registration issue that the clinic cannot fix directly.
  4. Once the patient confirms their dependent's coverage has been reinstated or corrected, resubmit the claim for payment.
