Emergency Call-Out Details Required

MSP requires a note record explaining why an emergency call-out fee was billed.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to resolve the error.

  1. Locate the rejected claim in your billing software.
  2. Confirm an appropriate emergency call-out or out-of-office hours fee code was used (e.g., 01200, 01201, 01202, 13008, 13108).
  3. Add a 'Note Record' to the claim. The note must justify the call-out fee. Include the time the physician was called, the time the physician arrived, and a brief clinical reason for the emergency.
  4. Ensure the note clearly states that the physician travelled from their home or office specifically for that patient encounter.
  5. Resubmit the claim to the Teleplan Data Centre with the new note record attached.
  6. If the claim is rejected again with the I1 code after adding the note, contact the Teleplan Service Desk at 604-683-7151 for clarification.
