Invalid Emergency Anaesthesia

You billed an emergency anaesthesia call-out fee for a scheduled, non-emergency procedure.

Official Description: 01210 - 01212 are not billable with non-emergency procedures.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to resolve the error.

  1. Review the patient chart and the original claim to confirm if the primary surgical procedure was scheduled (elective) or a genuine emergency.
  2. If the procedure was elective, remove the anaesthesia call-out fee item (01210, 01211, or 01212) from the claim. The standard anaesthesia time units should still be billable.
  3. If the procedure was a genuine emergency, ensure the claim's diagnostic code supports this. Consider adding a clarifying note to the claim record (e.g., 'Emergency service required due to...') before resubmitting.
  4. After making the correction, save and resubmit the claim through Teleplan.
  5. If you have verified the service was an emergency and the claim is rejected again, contact the Teleplan Data Centre at 604-683-7151 to review the claim specifics.
